On leave to Palangkaraya
What a nice city..
18th May 2007 was my first time to go to the city other than in West Borneo. Palangkaraya is the capital city of the Central Borneo. It needs 11 hrs road-way to reach this city from Pangkalan Bun, of course with a road that has a less quality than in Java. Can you imagine, 40% of the road is consist of pebbles and small-rocks. And I needed to follow that kind of road starting from 08 PM in the afternoon, “enjoyed” the night, and arrived in Palangkaraya on 07 AM. What a journey, isn’t it..? And “luckily”, there was no hotel rooms avalaible at that time. You know why.? Because it was exactly the birthday of the Province.
Yes, it was the 50th birthday of the Central Borneo. And all the city had prepared the 6 days of celebration for that moment, starting on 19th May until 24th May 2007. All the people from around the province had came to visit the city, each of them representing their regency. And that made all of the hotel full-occupied at that time. So, I needed to find the hotel around the city, luckily I can get the best after one hour searching. Oh, what a tired day..
Yeah, but that journey gave me a precious experience. In the afternoon, when I woke up, I have a new spirit to start a day. I tried to find a food-bazaar area or some thing like that, and I found that area at the side of the 2nd Main Road around the Main Circle. There were approximately 100 kafe was opened, and of course they were offering a plenty kind of food, weleh-weleh-weleh, what a place..!!
So, after a nite with “a full-occupied” stomach ( ^_^), I was ready to have a long journey next day. I had planned to go to the Main Sport-Field, where the opening ceremony of the City’s birthday celebration would be started on 12.00 AM. Unlucky for me because I need to have a departure from Palangkaraya on 04.00 PM that day.. Well, instead of wasting of my time, I’d just prepared my camera and so on, and directly went to the field in the morning. Surprisingly, all the participants had already come, to get prepared of course, so that I can see many handycraft and goods as well as to take a photo of which.
A lot of beautiful handycraft I’ve never seen before was shown overthere. It made me feel that Dayak-nese have a pretty good taste about the art, especially for wooden-based art. Well, because of a limitation of my bag (I’d just became a backpaker anyway), I postponed to buy something from there.
And, finally I must come back to the site. You can guess how hard my journey was. Hehehehehehehe, it’s just exactly the same as how I reached Palangkaraya.
That’s all my journey report to Palangkaraya, guys. I’ll try to show up all my photos have been taken during my journey.
